My name is Justin Jones and will be doing my EDGE project on lambing spring (April 2017). The explanation of the project entitles giving educational tours of a local farm here in Cedar City, Utah about the life cycle of sheep and how farming works. I will take groups at specific times to the farm, explain and give them a step by step detailed tours of what lambing is all about. April is the only month of the year where baby lambs are born and where people can get the full experience. This is why timing for my project was and is essential. The main goal of this project is to help others leave the tour with a better understanding about livestock and farming. Often times people buy their groceries and don’t even think twice about the work and time it took for the animal to be raised, butchered and shipped off. By showing people, rather than telling them about it, this experience will give them a stronger appreciation for livestock and educate at the same time. I have been doing farm work my entire life. I have worked many jobs here at SUU but growing up I worked on my family's ranch all my life. That is where I received my inspiration for my EDGE project. I learned through this process a lot about myself. I learned that I have strengths in teaching and educating people about something my family and I are passionate about. My EDGE project would look great on a resume for potential job opportunities in the education and leadership department.
